KDevelop fails to start with "this session is already active in another running instance"

KDevelop fails to start with a message of "this session is already active in another running instance" printed out. How to make it start?

If you are sure this is safe, remove the lock file:

$ rm ~/.kde/share/apps/kdevelop/sessions/*/lock
